Baroque Viola By Jean Baptiste Salomon Paris 1769 Jean Baptiste Salomon worked in Paris from 1730-1771 when he died. He was Dean of the Violin Maker's Guild in 1760. His workshop sign was "A Sainte Cecile"
The one piece back of maple of plain wood. The ribs, pegbox and scroll of similar wood.
The two piece front of pine of medium grain in the centre broadening towards the flanks.
The varnish of a light orange-brown colour on a yellow ground. Label Reads:

Original neck still bearing three steel nail fixings in top block, original bass bar and saddle.

Ribs: Lower bass rib several small cracks near end button. Small piece of wood inserted into rib, near cracks, another piece of wood inserted into rib near mitre.
