Baroque Violin By Sebastian Klotz Mittenwald C.1760

Born 1696. Died 1768. Worked in Mittenwald.

The two piece back of maple of strong medium-fine curl descending across the back from the joint. The ribs, pegbox and scroll of somewhat less pronounced curl.

The two piece front of pine of very fine grain in the centre broadening towards the flanks.

The varnish of a rich red-orange colour on a yellow ground.
