Classical Violin By Charles & Samuel Thompson London C.1790

Charles & Smauel Thompson worked at the sign of the Bass Violin in St. Paul's Churchyard, London, 1770-1790. Modelled after the Stainer style.

The two piece back of maple of medium curl descending across the back from the joint. The ribs of similar curl, the pegbox and scroll of somewhat fainter broader curl.

The two piece front of pine of medium grain in the centre broadening towards the flanks.

The varnish of a dark orange-brown colour on a yellow ground.

Excellent original condition.

Original neck still bearing original nail fixing, original bass bar and saddle.

Front: Treble f-hole wing crack running up from lower hole. Crack on bass side running up from lower edge near saddle. Varnish wear to lower treble (beard wear).

Pegbox: Pegholes bushed.
