Description:

Viola J Thibouville-lamy Mirecourt C.1890.

Produced by J. Thibouville-Lamy who worked at both Mirecourt and Paris. He was awarded medals in almost every country as well as being honoured with the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour ribbon in 1877.

He was renowned for his technically innovative approach and the strong tone of the instruments he produced.

The example offered here has a two piece maple back of plain wood. The ribs are of a similar wood with the pegbox and scroll of a faint fine curl.

The Viola has a two piece front of pine of a medium grain in the centre broadening towards the flanks.

The varnish is an orange-brown colour on a yellow ground.
