Violin By Leon Bernardel Paris 1934. Lob 356mm

Born in Paris in 1853 Leon Bernardel was the son and pupil of Ernest Auguste and later worked with both Derazey and Gand. He opened his own establishment in 1899. Renowned for attention to detail and skilled workmanship, he created some very fine toned instruments which were extensively used by French players.

This example is a workshop piece and is of excellent quality.

It has a two piece back of maple with a medium-broad curl descending across the back from the joint. The ribs, pegbox and scroll are of a similar curl.

The front is two piece and of medium grain pine.

The varnish of an orange-brown colour on a yellow ground.
