Violin By Johann Gottlob Pfretschner, Markneukirchen C1779. The work of Johann Gottlob Pfretzschner is considered by many to be the finest of the Pfretzschner family. Born in 1753 he was based in Markneukirchen and this example dates from the mid point of his career which ended with his death in 1823.
Mellow in character this violin has a one piece back of maple of a faint medium curl, running horizontally across the back. The ribs, pegbox and scroll are of a similar curl.
The violin has a two piece fine grain pine front.
The varnish is a warm orange-brown colour on a yellow ground. Label Reads:
