Violin By Jacob Fendt London C.1820. Jacob Fendt is widely recognised as having the finest quality of workmanship of all the Fendt family. Born in 1802, he is renowned for his meticulous copies of the great works of Stradivarius, Guarnerius and Amati. Cremonese in every detail his instruments are defined by their fine detail, superb tonal quality and attractive appearance and even in their day they were considered to be modern antiques. Jacob Fendt died in 1849.
This example is one of his Guarnerius examples and dates from his early career around 1820.
The violin has a one piece back of maple of a broad medium curl slightly descending across the back from bass down towards treble. The ribs are of a strong medium curl, the pegbox and scroll of plain wood.
The two piece front is pine of medium grain in the centre broadening towards the flanks.
The varnish is a rich orange-brown colour on a yellow ground. Label Reads:
