French Violin By Thibouville-lamy Mirecourt C.1890 Produced by J. Thibouville-Lamy who worked at both Mirecourt and Paris and was awarded medals in almost every country as well as being honoured with the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour ribbon in 1877. He was renowned for his technically innovative approach and the strong tone of the instruments produced.
This example has a one piece back of maple of a faint irregular curl with the ribs, pegbox and scroll being of a plain wood.
The two piece pine front is of a broad grain in the bass flanks, becomming finer towards the treble flanks.
The varnish is an orange-red colour on a yellow ground. Label Reads:
