Violin By Melvin Goldsmith 2003 Melvin Goldsmith was born in 1968 and became a professional maker in 1993. He has over 25 year’s violin making experience and made his first violin at the age of 12 under the tutelage of his Grandfather, Charles Arche.
As a maker he has carefully researched replicating the methods, materials and aesthetics of the Eighteenth Century Italian Masters and specialises in copies of Old Master instruments.
This particular example is based on the Stradivarius pattern and has a two piece back of maple of a strong medium curl ascending across the back from the joint. The ribs, pegbox and scroll are of a similar curl.
The violin has a two piece front of Italian pine of a medium grain.
The antique oil varnish is a warm orange-brown colour on a yellow ground. Label Reads:
