Description:

Violin Thibouville-lamy, Mirecourt. C.1900.

Produced by J. Thibouville-Lamy who worked at both Mirecourt and Paris and was awarded medals in almost every country as well as being honoured with the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour ribbon in 1877. He was renowned for his technically innovative approach and the strong tone of the instruments produced.

This example has a one piece back of maple, faint medium curl slightly descending across the back from the bass down towards the treble. The ribs are of a similar curl, with the pegbox and scroll of plain wood.

The violin has a one piece pine front of a fine grain in the treble flanks broadening towards the bass flank.

The varnish is a rich red-brown colour on a yellow ground.
