Violin 3/4 German, Louis Lowendahl Stradivarius Copy. C.1900. Louis Lowendahl was born in Prussia in 1836 and first set up a musical instrument establishment in Berlin in 1855. After spending some time in America he then settled in Berlin and moved to larger premises in 1889. He was awarded a silver medal at the London Inventions exhibition and another at Bologna in Italy for his work.
The eample offered here is typical of his work and dates from around 1900. It has a two piece maple back of a faint broad curl descending across the back from the joint. The ribs, pegbox and scroll are of a similar wood.
The two piece pine front has a medium-broad grain.
