Violin Breton Brevete C.1880 The name Breton was used by the J.Thibouville-Lamy workshops from around 1867. J.Thibouville-Lamy worked at both Mirecourt and Paris and was awarded medals in almost every country as well as being honoured with the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour ribbon in 1877.
He was renowned for his technically innovative approach and the strong tone of the instruments produced.
The violin has a one piece maple of a medium curl slightly descending across the back from the treble down towards the bass. The ribs, pegbox and scroll are of a similar curl.
The instrument has a two piece pine front of medium grain in the centre broadening towards the flanks.
The varnish is a light orange-brown colour on a yellow ground. Label Reads:
